Book Club

About

Our Guiding Mission:

SERC Book Club is a community resource formed in response to a need for environmental education that:

1) centers on the experiences of BIPOC with environmental and social injustices

2) equips us with the bold imagination and optimism necessary to address the crises of our times

Since Summer 2020, SERC has invited the campus community to join our student-facilitated book club (also known by the names Anti-Racist Eco Bookworms and Hot People Who Read).

Through the sharing of chosen books, art, poems and other media forms, we aim to foster greater community care, discussion, and a space to heal and to celebrate a more diverse and complete sense of environmental justice. It is our goal that as members, we will grow together in becoming active agents in the dismantling of oppressive, racist systems and in the creation of bolder, more just futures.*

In our efforts to create a sustainable, accessible, and inclusive space, we are currently opting for shorter-form and more manageable reads and media. All selections are either free digitally or SERC will provide a select number of physical copies to students. We welcome participants from all and any disciplines to come enjoy discussion, snacks, and tea with us.

Join!

We always welcome new student members, graduate or undergraduate. We are currently on summer break and will resume in the Fall 2024 semester. In the meantime, check out our SERC Book Club Recommends list below to find a summer read.
