Alina Zárate (she/her/ella) is a first year PhD student in the Energy and Resources Group from San Gabriel, CA. She recently graduated from UC Berkeley receiving a B.S. in Environmental Sciences, a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a minor in Spanish Language and Literature. As an undergraduate, Alina worked in the California Central Valley as an intern for the United Farm Workers of America and served as the coordinator of a Vaccine Equity Campaign in the Bay Area during the COVID pandemic. Alina has had the unique opportunity to study and conduct research in Spain, Chile, and Australia as well as participate in a number of research projects at UC Berkeley related to climate, sustainability, and labor rights. As an activist and researcher, Alina is passionate about global climate and environmental justice issues. Her current work centers around food systems, labor rights, and farmworker and climate justice.
