Alina is a fifth-year student from San Gabriel, CA pursuing a simultaneous degree in Environmental Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and minoring in Spanish Language and Literature. In 2019, Alina worked in the California Central Valley as an intern for the United Farm Workers of America. She also worked as the coordinator of a Vaccine Equity Campaign in the Bay Area during the COVID pandemic in 2021. Alina has had the unique opportunity to study and conduct research in Spain, Chile, and Australia as well as participate in a number of research projects at UC Berkeley related to climate, sustainability, and labor rights. As an activist and researcher, Alina is passionate about global climate and environmental justice issues particularly in relation to water management, food systems, and migrant agricultural workers.

Hi everyone, my name is Amara Ibeanusi, and I'm a rising senior majoring in Molecular Environmental Biology with a minor in African American Studies. I'm eager to combine my passions for environmental science, sustainability, and education through my new, upcoming role as a SERC/ Ecology Center Climate Fellow. Within this role, I hope to learn more about environmental outreach at the nonprofit level, and I'm excited to help foster collaborations between the Ecology Center and SERC.

Anjika is a current senior studying Environmental Policy & Data Science, with a concentration in Urban Science. She is passionate about environmental action, community building, and the intersection of environmental & public health. Anjika is inspired by SERC’s initiatives and impact on Berkeley’s community and beyond, and she hopes to integrate more zero waste practices on campus through the work of the SERC Green Team. Alongside her sustainability initiatives, Anjika enjoys cooking, practicing Yoga, dancing, and exploring the outdoors!

Carli Baker is a community-centered educator and naturalist, whose love of nature sprung from early experiences exploring, playing, and fishing in and around the American River. After graduating from UC Berkeley with degrees in Conservation & Resource Studies and Anthropology, with a minor in Forestry, she explored a myriad of environmental careers while working in zoos, aquariums, community gardens, public parks, museums, nature centers, classrooms, offices and field sites. They are passionate about supporting efforts to cultivate environmentally literate communities that advocate for community-centered solutions to environmental and social problems. She enjoys any activity that can be done outside, including cycling, running, kayaking, and taking her cats Alfonse and Casimir on walks in the East Bay Hills. As a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, she is in the process of learning her native language and thinking about how to decolonize their life as an urban Indigenous person. They are a certified California Environmental Educator, California Naturalist, current Justice Outside Rising Leaders Fellow, and a board member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Wildlife Society.

Chloe is a fourth-year undergraduate student studying Political Science and Society & Environment. She is interested in addressing environmental issues through government policy and political activism. She has experience working on political campaigns and with on-campus sustainability efforts. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking, dancing, and spending time with her dog, Bear.

Hi! My name is Gaby Rivera and I’m a senior majoring in Architecture. As a future architect, I’m interested in learning about and implementing sustainable practices in the built environment in order to positively impact communities. My interest and curiosity for sustainable practices pushed me to obtain my LEED Green Associates and WELL Accredited Professional credentials, which are green building credentials that oversee sustainable practices in favor of a building’s inhabitants and users’ well-being. Besides my interest in architecture and sustainability, I’m also interested in linguistics and language learning; in fact, one of my long-term goals is to become a polyglot at some point in my life! In my free time I enjoy exploring new places with my friends, going for runs, and playing sudokus. I’m very excited to be part of the SERC team and contribute to the environmental community at Cal.

Jacqueline is a reader, writer, dreamer, and maker from the San Joaquin Valley of California (Yokuts land). She is in her third year of studying Geography and Conservation & Resource Studies with focuses on race, space, healing, and design. Her passion for environmental justice is sourced from her upbringing in the Valley and her Mexican-Nicaraguan American identity and she takes pleasure in helping guide creative, collaborative projects at SERC. Jacqueline also loves art, poetry, live music, and tea and lately her interests are in wellness and joyful movement.

Jade is a third year majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in African American Studies. She is extremely passionate about sustainability and plans to pursue a career grounded in environmental justice after college. She grew up in Los Angeles and has swam competitively her entire life. She enjoys reading, impromptu concerts, and bringing her friends on sunset drives.

Jed Terrence Lee (they/them), is a Taiwanese and Chinese-Filipino American activist and artist. As a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, Jed received a B.S in Society and Environment and two minors in Global Poverty & Practice and City Planning. Jed is now working for the Student Environmental Resource Center on campus as a Wellness and Environmental Justice Coordinator to continue pursuing environmental, climate, and development justice. Jed strongly believes that we can always look to nature to find inspiration for our interpersonal relationships, collective movements, and personal healing, and that there is always love, life and hope in this world. Jed loves hanging out, being outdoors, gardening, and exploring new food places! Jed also holds a major love for the ocean, sociology, writing, and hearing about other people’s stories.

Joshua is a fourth-year student majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. Through his love for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities, he developed a passion for sustainability. He is interested in blending materials science and sustainability to create eco-friendly solutions to engineering practices.

Kaone is a final year Mastercard Foundation scholar from Kanye, Botswana. Prior to her graduate studies, she was an Investment Analyst for the EU & GIZ funded program where she managed a portfolio of 99 female-founded enterprises across Sub-Saharan Africa. In tandem, she was a Research Assistant to a global automotive engineer and executive, supporting an ongoing e-mobility project in Uganda. She has also worked directly with Botswana’s former Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry within her boutique economic advisory firm to conduct preliminary investment potential analysis on six African wildlife economies. Kaone is a Young African Leaders Initiative alumnus, a graduate of McKinsey & Company’s Forward Africa program; former Vice-President of Botswana Women Lean In-Network and most recently represented UC Berkeley at the annual Harvard Africa Business Conference in Boston. Her favorite pastimes are reading, listening to podcasts, cooking and traveling.

Kat is a third-year majoring in Data Science with minors in GIST and Sustainable Design. She is passionate about researching nature-based climate solutions and exploring the intersections of sustainability and technology to discover innovative ways of advancing environmental conservation efforts. In her role at SERC, she strives to advance zero waste efforts at Cal by leading the campus’ Single Use Plastic Elimination by 2030 Policy. During her free time, she enjoys going on long hikes, picnics, and playing the ukulele!

“Hi, I’m Keshwanth and I am a second year Environmental Economics and Policy major. I am passionate about preserving our environment and love exploring the vast nuances to solving the climate crisis, whether it be through energy, policy, or economics. I am super excited to be able to join the wonderful and diverse team that SERC is and help expand the culture of sustainability within the Berkeley campus and broader community. In my free time, I love to read, play basketball, and hang out with friends and family!”

Keshwanth Puligulla (he/him)

Kwabena is an incoming Energy and Resource Group (ERG) graduate student in fall 2023. He’s from Ghana and has worked on energy projects in West Africa, particularly power plant construction. He’s interested in decarbonizing electric power grids, global climate change, and sustainable energy transition, particularly in developing countries. Kwabena seeks to promote sustainability through photography and is looking forward to a great experience with the SERC community as he joins as a photographer. Kwabena loves backpacking on road trips, hiking, and taking photos of interesting locations as a hobby.

Laila is a third year from Karachi, Pakistan studying Sustainable Environmental Design and minoring in City Planning. She is interested in decolonizing infrastructural spaces in Pakistan, the complex challenges of global warming and sustainability in cities, and the gendered politics of mobility and displacement. She is very excited to support SERC's mission, and is grateful to learn from passionate change-makers dedicated to this work! In her free time, Laila enjoys reading poetry and manga, digital and film photography, and mixed-media art.

Lara Zangana is a first year student from San Diego, CA. She is passionate about the interconnectedness of global issues and environmental impacts. This along with the effects of media and modern technology on society. Lara works towards learning more about these subjects in class and outside of class within her community. She is excited to see what the future holds for sustainability. She is happy to be working with SERC and such a strong community. In her free time she also enjoys exploring/traveling to new places, hanging out with her friends, and advocating for education.

Lucy Park! Is a second-year majoring in Conservation and Resource Studies. She grew up half in the woods of Virginia, and half hopping around the Bay Area. Exploring these dramatically different environments and cultures kindled Lucy’s deep interests in rural/urban studies, design, and storytelling. She’s taught hands-on composting workshops at the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit and Garden for the Environment in San Francisco, and now with SERC, Lucy’s excited to continue exploring vermicomposting, food waste management, and teaching (and learning!) as a Vermicomposting Co-Supervisor this year.

Lydia is a second year studying Psychology and pursuing a Certificate in Design Innovation. Through researching climate psychology, she became interested in understanding the intersections between mental health and climate justice, such as eco-anxiety and ecological grief, in high-risk and vulnerable populations. Lydia is passionate about sustainability and equity-focused design, and they hope to contribute to a more environmentally just future with SERC. In their free time, you can find them climbing, making playlists, and eating dumplings on the Glade!

Nat is a fourth year Society and Environment major, also pursuing a Japanese minor and Food Systems minor. Throughout their time at Berkeley, they have been involved in various communities working toward food justice. Food systems work—more specifically in the agroecology movement—is where they feel they can make the most impact on the intersections of environmental crises and social justice issues. They are excited to be part of the SERC team as TGIF Program Associate and help actualize the many exciting EJ/sustainability projects goals that the UC Berkeley community has to offer! In their free time, you might see them playing volleyball, ultimate frisbee, crocheting, baking, volunteering at the UC Gill Tract, or just enjoying time with friends!

Rae is a third year majoring in Rhetoric and Minoring in Public Policy. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Rae was a part of various initiatives on clean energy, housing and environmental justice efforts that made her excited to be a part of SERC. As R&O Associate, Rae loves learning about and supporting all of the eco-community initiatives and is always down to talk about trees, hit the fire trails for a hike or listen to music on the glade (and anywhere else).

Roberto is a senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Civil Engineering. He hopes to be able to change policies that put communities' health at risk and would like to help create change through opportunity. Growing up in SoCal he was able to see the socio-economic differences that each city has to offer to marginalize communities. With an emphasis on construction management, he would like to focus on the public health aspect of civil engineering as he knows how difficult it is for someone to live in a suitable home. This home is not to be threatened by pests, mold, gangs, outside threats, and other living insecurities. During his free time, Roberto can be found playing soccer, reading case studies, or watching new shows. His favorite shows include and are not limited to; The Office, Friends, TBBT, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and more.

Rona Lasam (they/she) is a Filipino-American and a sophomore at UC Berkeley. They are currently deciding their major as they explore their academic interests regarding economics, psychology, and politics. With Rona’s interest for sustainability and connecting with their queer identity, Rona is now working with the Student Environmental Resource Center as the SERQueer Associate in charge of facilitating a community space for students interested in the environment who identify as LGBTQIIA+. With Rona’s passion to help others, they will continue being a campus leader for One Love—a nonprofit dedicated to educating youth about relationship health, as well as taking on a new role as the Health and Wellness Director for the Queer Alliance & Resource Center at Berkeley. In their free time they enjoy cooking, playing with dogs, and exploring new places. Overall, Rona enjoys meeting new people and is looking forward to the new connections they’ll make through being the SERQueer Associate!

Sharon was born and raised in San Diego county, where she began her educational endeavors at her local community college. She is a proud first generation college graduate and daughter of Lao refugees. She is an aspiring pleasure activist, environmental educator, and centers her work and vision with values of love and joy. Her passions lies among working with students and student activists on supporting their ideas and projects toward a more just world. Sharon served as the TGIF & Sustainability Initiatives Coordinator from 2014-2017, and has been serving as the SERC Director since March 2017. Prior to UC Berkeley, Sharon worked as the Sustainability Strategist for the Associated Students Inc. at San Francisco State University. At her leisure, she enjoys live music, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones (especially her cat, Lucille). She also serves as a board member for Food Empowerment Project, a vegan food justice organization. Sharon holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from San Francisco State University, is a certified Zero Waste Community Associate, and holds a certificate in Fundraising and Volunteer Management from UC Berkeley Extension.

Shreya is a third-year student majoring in Environmental Science and Geography with a minor in Data Science. Growing up in both the Bay Area and near the Bay of Bengal in India, she is grateful to have spent her childhood exploring nature with her family. Shreya's passion for environmental action is rooted in seeing the impact on her community from anthropogenic environmental disasters. Shreya aims to work at the intersection of scientific research, education, communication, and policy to ensure that countries in the Global South can navigate equitable access to climate solutions. Outside of her climate work, you can find Shreya listening to music, taking long walks with friends, and reading in cafes.

Taylor Rubly is a third year majoring in Environmental Economics & Policy and Society & Environment with a concentration in sustainability and justice. Growing up, Taylor spent time with her family camping, hiking, and rock climbing, which sparked her interest in environmentalism. Taylor is passionate about a just transition to clean energy and making professional development accessible at Berkeley. She enjoys promoting environmental career opportunities and connecting students with resources through her position at SERC. In her free time, you can catch Taylor speed walking through campus or napping on the Glade.

In the future, she would like to pursue a career at the intersection of technology and the environment where she can advocate for both people and the planet. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys creating digital art, kickboxing with friends, and piano.

Trisha (she/her) is a rising junior majoring in environmental science and minoring in data science. She is interested in developing the relationships between natural resource management, policy and community building to build safer, more resilient communities. She grew up moving in between Bangalore, India and the Bay Area where she witnessed the stark contrasts between the two worlds in terms of access to green spaces, waste management, and pollution. She is passionate about equitable urban planning, conservation, and sustainable food systems. In Berkeley, she enjoys going on walks around different neighbourhoods, exploring new cuisines, and picnicking on the glade.

Ty is a third year Conservation and Resource Studies major studying Environmental Policy with a focus on agriculture. They’ve been involved with the Berkeley Student Cooperative as Sustainability Coordinator and with the Berkeley Student Food Collective as Data Democratization Associate. They are passionate about Queering our idea of nature and creating a world that is interconnected and intersectional. In their free time, they enjoy smelling every flower possible, hiking, and playing music with friends.

Viti is a sophomore at Berkeley majoring in Molecular Environmental Biology and Data Science. She is an advocate for environmental and social equity, and has enjoyed working on a wide range of initiatives including Asian American mental health and the preservation of endangered species. In her free time, Viti enjoys dancing, graphic design, and playing tennis. She is looking forward to using content design and management to widen the scope of SERC/TGIF's impact on campus!
