Alina is a fifth-year student from San Gabriel, CA pursuing a simultaneous degree in Environmental Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and minoring in Spanish Language and Literature. In 2019, Alina worked in the California Central Valley as an intern for the United Farm Workers of America. She also worked as the coordinator of a Vaccine Equity Campaign in the Bay Area during the COVID pandemic in 2021. Alina has had the unique opportunity to study and conduct research in Spain, Chile, and Australia as well as participate in a number of research projects at UC Berkeley related to climate, sustainability, and labor rights. Carli Baker is a community-centered educator and naturalist, whose love of nature sprung from early experiences exploring, playing, and fishing in and around the American River. After graduating from UC Berkeley with degrees in Conservation & Resource Studies and Anthropology, with a minor in Forestry, she explored a myriad of environmental careers while working in zoos, aquariums, community gardens, public parks, museums, nature centers, classrooms, offices and field sites. They are passionate about supporting efforts to cultivate environmentally literate communities that advocate for community-centered solutions to environmental and social problems. She enjoys any activity that can be done outside, including cycling, running, kayaking, and taking her cats Alfonse and Casimir on walks in the East Bay Hills. As a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, she is in the process of learning her native language and thinking about how to decolonize their life as an urban Indigenous person. Hi! My name is Gaby Rivera and I’m a senior majoring in Architecture. As a future architect, I’m interested in learning about and implementing sustainable practices in the built environment in order to positively impact communities. My interest and curiosity for sustainable practices pushed me to obtain my LEED Green Associates and WELL Accredited Professional credentials, which are green building credentials that oversee sustainable practices in favor of a building’s inhabitants and users’ well-being. Besides my interest in architecture and sustainability, I’m also interested in linguistics and language learning; in fact, one of my long-term goals is to become a polyglot at some point in my life! Jed Terrence Lee (they/them), is a Taiwanese and Chinese-Filipino American activist and artist. As a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, Jed received a B.S in Society and Environment and two minors in Global Poverty & Practice and City Planning. Jed is now working for the Student Environmental Resource Center on campus as a Wellness and Environmental Justice Coordinator to continue pursuing environmental, climate, and development justice. Kaone is a final year Mastercard Foundation scholar from Kanye, Botswana. Prior to her graduate studies, she was an Investment Analyst for the EU & GIZ funded program where she managed a portfolio of 99 female-founded enterprises across Sub-Saharan Africa. In tandem, she was a Research Assistant to a global automotive engineer and executive, supporting an ongoing e-mobility project in Uganda. She has also worked directly with Botswana’s former Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry within her boutique economic advisory firm to conduct preliminary investment potential analysis on six African wildlife economies. Kaone is a Young African Leaders Initiative alumnus, a graduate of McKinsey & Company’s Forward Africa program; former Vice-President of Botswana Women Lean In-Network and most recently represented UC Berkeley at the annual Harvard Africa Business Conference in Boston. Kwabena is an incoming Energy and Resource Group (ERG) graduate student in fall 2023. He’s from Ghana and has worked on energy projects in West Africa, particularly power plant construction. He’s interested in decarbonizing electric power grids, global climate change, and sustainable energy transition, particularly in developing countries. Lucy Park! Is a second-year majoring in Conservation and Resource Studies. She grew up half in the woods of Virginia, and half hopping around the Bay Area. Exploring these dramatically different environments and cultures kindled Lucy’s deep interests in rural/urban studies, design, and storytelling. Roberto is a senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Civil Engineering. He hopes to be able to change policies that put communities' health at risk and would like to help create change through opportunity. Growing up in SoCal he was able to see the socio-economic differences that each city has to offer to marginalize communities. With an emphasis on construction management, he would like to focus on the public health aspect of civil engineering as he knows how difficult it is for someone to live in a suitable home. Rona Lasam (they/she) is a Filipino-American and a sophomore at UC Berkeley. They are currently deciding their major as they explore their academic interests regarding economics, psychology, and politics. With Rona’s interest for sustainability and connecting with their queer identity, Rona is now working with the Student Environmental Resource Center as the SERQueer Associate in charge of facilitating a community space for students interested in the environment who identify as LGBTQIIA+. Sharon was born and raised in San Diego county, where she began her educational endeavors at her local community college. She is a proud first generation college graduate and daughter of Lao refugees. She is an aspiring pleasure activist, environmental educator, and centers her work and vision with values of love and joy. Her passions lies among working with students and student activists on supporting their ideas and projects toward a more just world. Sharon served as the TGIF & Sustainability Initiatives Coordinator from 2014-2017, and has been serving as the SERC Director since March 2017.
